Wallan’s Greenhill Reserve to be weatherproofed
The latest round of the Victorian Government’s Country Football and Netball Program will see more than $100,000 go towards reshaping, leveling and irrigation of Greenhill Reserve Wallan to prevent damage and to ensure clubs can play.
Wallan, traditionally known as Wallan Wallan, is a town in Victoria, 51 kilometres north of Melbourne's Central Business District
Once complete, the Wallan Magpies Football and Netball Club will have room to grow and locals can get on the ground when they want, whether as a player, coach, umpire or volunteer.
Victorian Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence notes “The Wallan Magpies are an integral part of this community and they deserve modern and safe facilities they can be proud of.”
Greenhill Reserve facilities, managed by Mitchell Shire Council, include two ovals, two synthetic cricket wickets, training nets, a social pavilion, two change rooms and outdoor netball court.
Head of AFL Victoria Ben Kavenagh added "The Country Football and Netball Program plays an important role in helping communities’ benefit from new and upgraded facilities, which helps local sporting clubs thrive.”
Netball Victoria Chief Executive Rosie King shared “The new and upgraded facilities not only provide spaces to play, but also give us reasons to come together for the sheer enjoyment of it.”
The $2.3 million Country Football and Netball Program is a partnership with Netball Victoria, Australian Football League, and AFL Victoria established in 2005 to help netball and football clubs across the state to meet growing demand and welcome even more members. The program has delivered more than $34.5 million to support more than 550 projects.
Better sport and recreation facilities make it easier for players, coaches, umpires and supporters of all abilities to get involved in local sport and lead healthy and active lifestyles.
The Victorian Government has invested more than $1.1 billion in community sport and recreation infrastructure since 2014.
