Tenka Group becomes certified Carbon Neutral company
The Tenka Group, including the Gemba and Turnstile businesses, has announced that it has become a certified Carbon Neutral company through offsetting all unavoidable emissions by investing in globally certified carbon offset projects.
Tenka - a group of companies and a team of passionate professionals focused on igniting new opportunities within the sport and entertainment industry - has an ongoing commitment to sustainability believing that the sport and entertainment industry must play a leadership role in emissions reduction.
Tenka recognises the impact that climate change continues to have on the sports and entertainment landscape and hold themselves accountable for change. This is a passion shared by numerous Tenka clients, from rights-holders to athletes and brands, and is another step on Tenka’s journey towards a Net Zero future.
Working with leading climate action advocate ClimatePartner, they have measured and calculated the greenhouse gas emissions for 2021 across all offices and operations, via a detailed Corporate Carbon Footprint Assessment.
The staff across all offices and operations came together to select the initiatives to support and are proud to be investing in Clean Oceans, Plastic Bank.
Over eight million tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans every year and at Plastic Bank collection points around the world, people exchange waste collected for money, food, drinking water and school fees. The project ensures less plastic ends up in the sea and the plastic collected is recycled to serve as a raw material for new products.
Tenka is also excited to announce that they have gone above and beyond their emissions offset, by donating additional funds to other carbon reduction and environmental programs. Solar Energy Project in Namibia is contributing to the share of the country’s renewable electricity mix and improving the power supply for local communities. The Plant-a-Tree Conservation Program helps to restore important Australian biodiverse habitat, planting native trees or shrub species in the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor.
Tenka’s business has committed to delivering an annual ‘Dividend to the Planet’, where 2% of company profits are invested into offsetting all unavoidable emissions and supporting effective environmental projects around the world.
Boyd Hicklin, a Director of Tenka notes “It’s our belief that we all have a responsibility to protect our one-and-only ‘home ground’ and that climate change must be addressed as a matter of urgency. We understand that as individuals and a group, we must continue to reduce our direct CO2 emissions and provide support to environmental projects.”
Hicklin continued “we’ve made a clear commitment through our annual ‘Dividend for the Planet’ and we’re determined to be part of the solution. I’m proud that Tenka supports such clear and tangible outcomes as becoming Carbon Neutral Certified. It’s been a learning journey and not as costly and time-consuming as one might think. The team at Climate Partner made it simple, transparent and affordable. I’d like to think that more businesses in our industry will go on similar journeys to play their part.”
