Sydney Showground begins AFL Season with introduction of reusable beer cups
As the GWS GIANTS return to the field today, Sydney Showground has partnered with Australian owned company, WISE – It’s in your hands, to launch a new initiative by introducing reusable cups to all venue run outlets and bars.
WISE – It’s in your hands, supplies re-usable cups to stadiums, events and festivals with Sydney Showground the first sporting venue in Australia to make the switch to combat single-use beer cups.
Sydney Showground head of catering, Dwane Goodman says he is proud to be a part of the new initiative and for the venue to take the step towards change within the industry.
“WISE cups can withstand 500 washes, are easily collectable and by returning the cup you can help us dramatically reduce single-use plastic waste from Sydney Showground events,” Goodman said.
“Much like the push to decrease coffee cups, the next step is taking single-use beer cups out of the picture for events and we are proud to be leading that charge alongside WISE.”
After a successful trial at the 2019 Sydney Rugby 7s, Sydney Showground is excited to roll-out the reusable cups across all events over the coming years and be at the forefront of change within the event industry.
The process involves purchasing a reusable cup for $2 when you order your first beer. Each refill, the cup will be replaced with a clean cup. At the end of the event, patrons can either keep their cup as a memento, return the cup for a $1 refund or donate the cup into a charity bin that is provided by the event partner.
