Sydney Olympic Park innovation earns Green Globe recognition
Sydney Olympic Park Authority has been named a finalist in the prestigious 2016 Green Globe Awards for its innovative approach to leachate treatment, which is this first of its kind in Australia.
Tasked with the sustainable development and management of Sydney Olympic Park, the Authority’s Alternative Leachate Treatment Strategy guides the sustainable management of landfills and onsite treatment of leachate using low cost, low energy solutions that rely on natural wetlands to breakdown pollutants.
The Strategy also creates new wetland habitats for native flora and fauna, provides educational opportunities for local and international visitors and improves the local amenity and park experience.
The Green Globe Awards celebrate the work of organisations and individuals who are leading the way in making NSW a place where people and nature thrive. The awards are the leading environmental recognition program, celebrating excellence, leadership and innovation in sustainability.
Sydney Olympic Park Authority, along with the other finalists, will attend the 2016 Green Globe Awards ceremony, hosted by NSW Environment Minister, Mark Speakman, at the Art Gallery of NSW on 27th October.
