South Island obstacle course returns for Halloween spectacular
Queenstown’s popular all-terrain obstacle course The Mule will be returning for a Halloween spectacular, taking place on 31st October at stunning Moke Lake.
Returning for the fourth time, The Mule combines mud, rivers, mixed terrain and hard-core obstacles, challenging even the toughest of individuals and teams.
Teams or individuals can take on either 10 kilometre, 5 kilometre or Mad Mile challenges designed with everyone in mind to test physical and mental fitness, while embracing the fun and camaraderie of the whole experience.
Mule Event Management owner Dugald Peters is a former platoon commander in the British Army’s Parachute Regiment and has successfully managed public and corporate events in New Zealand for almost a decade.
Peters explains that for 2015 “new additions to the course include elements from The Madness event and we always look for new and different ways to lay down the challenge.
“There’s a real sense of local spirit at this event, with a huge range of people from all walks of life, all happily completing the course at their own pace.
“Saying that, it’s designed to push the boundaries and demands pure grit and determination.
“It’ll surprise you with what you can achieve individually or as a team.”
The signature 10 kilometre course takes on over 20 obstacles across mixed terrain, including a ‘brutal’ hillside phase reflecting the true scale of the event with knock-out views. Other highlights include the sandbag carry and river run obstacle, pushing limits even further.
The 5 kilometre course features mud, water and obstacles that combine for interesting team challenges including an 2 metre high wall to conquer, guaranteed entertaining viewing on this spectator-friendly course.
The Mad Mile is for people who love obstacles but not kilometres. It’s a short sharp course, all about speed and fun for the family.
Peters added “no matter which challenge you choose, the reward will be the same, a sense of achievement like no other.”
Peters’ Queenstown-based company also runs specially-designed team building programmes using The Mule course, which have proved hugely popular with local schools, sports teams and businesses.
Based on the same principles as The Mule, Peters has developed incentive, leadership, facilitation, training and conferencing programmes which can all be customised to include other activities such as rafting, heli-trips, camping and four-wheel driving.
The Mule has recently extended its reach to Auckland as new event ‘The Madness’ takes place for the first time this month, a gruelling ten mile (16 kilometre) course throwing challenging curveballs at every mile.
