Having secured a majority Government, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced his new Cabinet and ministerial positions, with a comprehensive suite of changes across all leisure portfolios.

Prime Minister Morrison has broken his commitment to keep Melissa Price as Environment Minister and replaced her with former Health and Sport Minister Sussan Ley who returns to Cabinet having resigned in an expenses scandal in early 2017.

Minister Ley will be one of a record seven women in cabinet, including the first ever female Agriculture Minister, Bridget McKenzie, who moves from the sport portfolio.

Barnaby Joyce has lost his role as special drought envoy, with responsibility for drought transferred to the Water Resources Minister, David Littleproud, who remains in Cabinet and adds rural finance, natural disaster and emergency management to his title but loses agriculture to Senator McKenzie.

Tasmanian Senator Richard Colbeck, who was out of Parliament from 2016 to 2018,  will serve as Minister for Sport, as well as having responsibility aged care, seniorooro Australians and youth. Senator Colbeck is a former Tourism Minister.

Senator Simon Birmingham retains his role as Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment with Senator Jonathon Duniam taking on the role of Assistant Minister for Regional Tourism.

Marise Payne will become Minister for Women, in addition to retaining foreign affairs, while Ken Wyatt will become the first Indigenous cabinet minister in Australia’s history, as the new Minister for Indigenous Affairs.

In addition to vacancies created by the retirement of senior ministers including Kelly O’Dwyer and Nigel Scullion, Prime Minister Morrison created room in cabinet by offering Mitch Fifield the role of ambassador to the United Nations and Arthur Sinodinos ambassador to the USA with the two Senate vacancies would be filled by the New South Wales and Victorian divisions of the Liberal party.

Replacing Senator Fifield, Paul Fletcher becomes the Minister for the Arts, Communications and Cyber Safety.

Trevor Evans was appointed assistant Environment Minister and Warren Entsch is the special envoy for the Great Barrier Reef.
