Parks and Leisure Australia NSW ACT 2019 Conference call for abstracts now open

The 2019 Parks and Leisure Australia NSW/ACT Conference 'Solid Foundations: Vibrant Futures' will inform delegates of innovative ideas and emerging trends, and provide an opportunity for parks and leisure professionals to share learnings.

The Conference to be held in the Queanbeyan Palerang Region from 22nd May to 24th May has a strong emphasis on discussions and workshops, sharing ideas and experiences, and networking.

The Conference Organising Committee is seeking proposals for:
• Solo or shared presentations
• Panel presentations
• Workshops

STREAM 1: PLACES & SPACES
In this stream speakers will explore and share insights on the role that innovative and 'smart' initiatives can play in enhancing our public spaces. The rapid pace of changes in technology and community expectation is shaping how public recreation spaces are designed and managed. How can park managers best utilise the available information and resources to meet the needs and expectations of the community in the future? How does the industry set a solid foundation to ensure we have vibrant recreation spaces in the future that are planned and designed with the ability to adapt to the needs of tomorrow and meet the expectations for sustainable outcomes? With so many options available, speakers in this stream will share insights into initiatives that have lead to good outcomes and opportunities that have significant potential.

STREAM 2: EVENTS, PROGRAMS & SERVICES
Sport and recreation events, programs and services in our places and spaces are the Solid Foundations of our industry, it's what we do. Come and share your successes of gathering your community to a special cultural event. How did you make it sustainable? What was innovative in the way you ensured the programming was perfect for another season of sports competition?

The way we service our community is changing, how we interact with our recreation partners to deliver programs is evolving, and our events are getting more sophisticated and multipurpose. In this ever-changing landscape of public activities, tell us how you're ensuring your communities' Vibrant Futures through sustainable and innovative design and delivery.

Abstracts should be of interest to people working in one or more of the following focus areas:

Metro and Rural Councils

Sporting and Recreational services
Application Process:

Information required with an abstract submission:
Title of presentation/ workshop
Session type (solo presentation, shared presentation, workshop or panel)
Length of session (30 min, 60 min or 90min)
Presenter's name(s)
Presenter's position and workplace/ company
Learning outcome of the session (what the delegate will know at the end of the session)
Outline of how the presenter will engage/ interact with the audience
Abstract
A summary of 100 - 150 words describing the issue/ presentation. Abstracts will be used in the Conference Program.

Key Dates:
Call for Abstracts Open: 26 November 2018
Call for Abstracts Close: Monday 4 February 2019
Speakers notified of acceptance: Wednesday 27 February 2019

Submission Conditions:
The invitation to submit an Abstract does not constitute an offer to pay travel, accommodation or registration costs associated with the Conference.
Speakers will have the option to register and attend the Conference for a reduced rate (speaker rate). Conversely, if a speaker can only be at the Conference for their presentation, no registration fee will be applicable.

Guidelines:
You may submit more than one abstract
Abstracts with a rural context are strongly encouraged
Abstracts should focus on key learnings from the project and not simply be a summary of a project process and outcomes
Workshops are strongly encouraged

Application process

Abstracts must be submitted using the online system.
Acknowledgement of the receipt of a completed abstract will be made by email.
