The Northern Territory Government is granting a lease of Crown land to the Scout Association of Australian Northern Territory Branch (Scouts NT) which will help Palmerston secure its first Scout Hall.

Located on the corner of Lambrick Avenue and Shearwater Drive in Bakewell, Palmerston the site will enable Scouts NT to develop and operate a Scout and community hall.

The project will create local jobs and stronger communities with the facility also able to be used by other local groups.

The Australian Government has provided $500,000 in funding to Scouts NT to assist in the delivery of the hall, which is anticipated to be completed by March 2025.

Scouts provides young people aged five to 25 fun and challenging opportunities to grow through adventure, and with around 70,000 members nationwide Scouts is one of Australia’s largest youth development organisations.

Northern Territory Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Logistics Joel Bowden noted “on behalf of the NT Government, it’s fantastic to be supporting Scouts NT and the Palmerston community with this crown land lease offer to develop and operate a scout hall in Palmerston.

“The Palmerston Scouts will get to design, build and operate their very own facility, but the broader community benefits from the use of this space as well.

Shane Pascoe-Bell, First Palmerston Scouts Group Leader enthused “this is a significant milestone for Palmerston Scouts as this will be our first official Hall, not a hired or rented space. The hall will benefit the Palmerston community as it will be available for other community groups to use or store their equipment.

“The commitments by the Australian Government and Northern Territory Government will ensure we build a great place for Scouts and the community for many years to come.”
