Ministerial changes in State Governments

The recent appointment of a new Premier in NSW and cabinet reshuffles in Victoria and South Australia have led to a number of changes among Ministers with responsibilities for leisure and related portfolios.

In NSW:

Andrew Stoner, Deputy Premier has taken on Tourism and Major Events among his other portfolios - in a move welcomed by pro-development lobby group the Tourism & Transport Forum (TTF).

Stuart Ayres is the new Minister for Minister for Sport & Recreation, replacing Gabrielle Upton been given the portfolio of Family and Community Services.

Troy Grant is the new Minister for Hospitality, Gaming and Racing and the Arts, taking over from George Souris.

New NSW Premier Mike Baird has also created a new Department of Planning and Environment replacing the previous Department of Planning and Infrastructure and incorporating the Office of Local Government and Office of Environment and Heritage.

In this new structure Pru Goward has been appointed as the new Minister for Planning,  Paul Toole, is the Minister for Local Government and Rob Stokes is the news Minister for the Environment, Minister for Heritage and Assistant Minister for Planning.

Former Ministers Robyn Parker (Environment) and George Souris (Arts and Tourism) lost out in the Cabinet.

In Victoria, former AFL player and coach Damian Drum was recently appointed Minister for Sport and Recreation, replacing Hugh Delahunty who is retiring from Parliament at the next Victorian election.

In South Australia, Jack Snelling has been appointed as the State’s new Minister for the Arts.

Snelling will also serve as the Minister for Defence Industries, the Minister for Health, the Minister for Health Industries, and the Minister for Mental Health and Substance Abuse.

Also in South Australia, former South Australian Premier John Olsen has been appointed Chairman of the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority (SMA) for a three-year term.

Olsen, the SANFL President, takes over from former South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) President Ian McLachlan, who served as the SMA’s original Chairman.

Current SACA President Andrew Sinclair has been appointed as SMA’s Deputy Chairman.
