Australian High Performance and Sports Science Workforce Survey 2013

Australian High Performance and Sports Science Workforce Survey 2013
September 10, 2013

In collaboration with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA,) Deakin University is inviting participation in a landmark research project to profile the Australian high performance and sports science workforce.

All Australian high performance managers and sports scientists, as well as the sports administrators who employ them at all levels of participation from high performance to grass roots sport, are encouraged to participate in this important investigation.

In a statement, Deakin University explain that "currently, there is little understanding of the work sports scientists do, their career development and the human resource management (HRM) practices of their employers.

"This study will provide important information that may help inform policy development and management in Australian sport."

Funded by ESSA the research project has two components:

1. To survey of Australian sport organisations and administrators; and

2. To survey of Australian high performance and sports science workers.

The statement continues "we are interested in finding out how high performance and sports science workers are employed; the methods for human resource management of high performance and sports science workers including selection, induction and remuneration; and training and development of their high performance and sports science employees.

"Possible benefits of participating in this research include a greater understanding of the Australian high performance and sports science workforce, which will help organisations make more informed decisions about planning for the future needs of the workforce. We cannot guarantee or promise that you will receive any direct benefits from this project.

"There are no anticipated risks in participating in this research. Participants will not be required to submit personal information that will be identifiable. For those participants who choose to provide contact details (name and email address) for future research, an additional, independent survey will be used to remove any association between survey data and participant's contact details."

All data held at Deakin University will be kept for a period of five years following the conclusion of the study, then deleted or disposed of securely.
