November 2, 2022

In a ground-breaking partnership for the sport, Tenpin Bowling Australia (TBA) has today announced today that the High Performance Centre on the Sunshine Coast will be named the AGL National High Performance Centre.

AGL will also shortly begin installation of a 99.8kW solar system made up of 217 solar panels on the roof of the centre to help harness the power of the sun to provide renewable energy to the centre.

Advising that said the organisation was thrilled to partner with AGL, TBA Chief Executive, Rohan O’Neill stated “we are delighted to welcome AGL to the Tenpin Bowling community in this flagship sponsorship arrangement that will deliver several positive outcomes.

“Harnessing solar energy to help power the AGL High-Performance Centre is a major step forward into ensuring the sport prepares for the future.

“With our Olympic ambitions clear, this partnership enables the sport to invest more in developing our talented athletes whilst also doing our bit for the planet.

“Energy is a major consideration for any tenpin bowling centre, and we believe that through our partnership with AGL, we can make a difference adding solar power.”

The solar system at the AGL National High Performance Centre will meet 44% of the venue’s overall energy demands and allows some renewable energy to be exported back into the grid.

AGL General Manager Commercial and Industrial Customers Ryan Warburton said the new partnership brings unique value to both organisations, adding “we’re proud to be partnering with Tenpin Bowling Australia to help the organisation realise its renewable energy potential.

“This is a unique partnership that includes renewable energy, solar systems, sponsorships, naming rights and an opportunity for AGL to support Australia’s future tenpin bowling athletes.

“With energy a key factor for tenpin bowling centres, this partnership is just another example of how AGL is providing sustainable energy solutions for all Australians.”

As part of the partnership, AGL will be working closely with TBA to enable further energy savings for other tenpin bowling centres across the country whilst accelerating the transition to renewable energy. Several centres already have existing solar energy capability however there remains a huge opportunity for the conversion of tenpin bowling centres to solar energy.

This announcement is timely given the AGL High-Performance Centre will host the International Bowling Federation World Cup and Para Bowling World Cup from the 3rd to 23rd November 2022.

The centre recently hosted the Tenpin Premier League Suncity Showdown while also providing the facility for over 400 league bowlers each week to participate in the \ir chosen sport.
