Adventure running and cycling events return to Central Australia

Adventure running and cycling events return to Central Australia
August 14, 2024

Adventure company Rapid Ascent will be delivering the Run Larapinta and Shimano Gravel Muster Stage Race later this month in Central Australia.

The events are supported by the Northern Territory Government through the Event Funding program delivered by Northern Territory Major Events Company.

Run Larapinta is a four day, four stage trail running event held on 16th to 19th August along the most spectacular sections of the iconic Larapinta Trail. The sold-out run will see 200 runners from across Australia test their stamina in the 10th iteration of the event.

Two different course lengths make up the event: the Malbunka long course featuring stages of 20km - 41km each day and the Namatjira offering stages of 13km - 27km.

The Gravel Muster Stage Race, formally known as the Redback MTB Stage Race, is a gravel riding race that will take competitors through the stunning East MacDonnell Ranges from 22nd – 25th August.

The four-day gravel riding experience delivers a blend of timed racing stages and untimed cruising sections in each day’s route. This unique mix of racing and riding allows riders to test their mettle while also experiencing the sheer beauty of the outback landscapes at a more leisurely pace.

NT Major Events Chief Executive Suzana Bishop notes “Running and cycling enthusiasts will be in for a treat when they take on the gruelling but equally satisfying Run Larapinta and Gravel Muster races.

“Not only will entrants be able to traverse through the stunning MacDonnell Ranges they are encouraged to take up the opportunity to explore Central Australia from the rich Aboriginal culture and pioneer history to experiences such as hot air ballooning and exploring the Alice Springs Desert Park.”

Rapid Ascent General Manager Sam Maffett shared “With spectacular views at every turn, it’s no wonder these events quickly gained a reputation as a must-do bucket-list events and we can’t wait to share these remarkable journeys with a new group of runners and gravel riders.”
