ACT sportsgrounds benefit from solar powered repurposed shipping containers
The ACT Government has introduced solar powered repurposed shipping container canteens and change room facilities at some of its sportsgrounds for the benefit of both players and spectators.
Gordon district playing fields recently had its pavilion damaged by fire and vandalism and as such the shipping container creates a dedicated temporary facility for Australian Rules football players and spectators at the playing fields.
Equipped with six solar panels and a battery, it generates 2.2 kilowatts of power to operate air conditioning, a fridge and lighting to provide approximately 12 hours of run time.
Two other similar temporary facilities have recently been introduced to ACT Government sportsgrounds as solar powered change rooms. In February 2023 a solar powered shipping container change room was installed for players at Gordon and in April the Hall Bushrangers Rugby Union team benefited with a container installed at Hall sportsground.
The ACT Government will continue to invest in similar solar powered shipping containers which can be placed at other grounds where required.
