$100 million plan to relocate Sydney’s Kogarah Golf Course
Plans to relocate the Kogarah Golf Club course - first proposed more than a decade ago by the now defunct Cooks Cove Development Authority - look set to be revived as part of a $100 million development proposal.
The project, being developed by Cook Cove Inlet Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of John Boyd Properties, which has represented the privately owned golf club since the initial master plan was released in 2004, would see the golf course relocate to a site to the south of Sydney’s M5 motorway encompassing the dilapidated St George Stadium.
The relocation of the golf course will pave the way for developers to transform the northern precinct, which has been identified by the NSW Department of Planning as having potential for 5,000 apartments and a 750-seat stadium for the St George Saints fooball club, who currently play at the St George Stadium.
The development application for the new golf course, which will feature a new golf course with a clubhouse located near where St George Stadium stands, was reportedly lodged late last year.
Under the proposed arrangements for the new course, the club is seeking a 99-year lease of the land from the Bayside Council, rather than the mix of local and state government authorities they presently have to negotiate with. The NSW Government and Bayside Council, who own land parcels on the site, had apparently agreed to the plans in principle.
Subject to approval, work is expected to start in the middle of the year and be finished by the end of 2018.
While the proposal for the northern precinct (where the Kogorah Golf Course is currently located) is less advanced, a rezoning application for the land is apparently set to be lodged in the coming months.
In addition to the residence and sport stadium, the plans would also include a cafe-restaurant precinct, a park on the edge of Cooks River and a cycle-pedestrian path around both precincts.
